In this post, I share the natural birth story of my second child.

To give you some back story, my first birth had progressed pretty fast. The midwife and doctors estimated my active labor was around 5 hours with my first born. They told me to expect this second one to be even faster! Possibly only an hour or two.

Christmas Eve was our false alarm. I was out at the evening church service we always go to on the beach. (One of the perks of living in Hawaii! Christmas Eve beachside!)

Already 5 days past due, but without any signs of labor starting, I had spent the day baking cookies and probably doing way too much stuff. Lol! Mid-service, my contractions suddenly come on strong & fast! It’s all front labor, which I had never experienced with my first born. Intense contractions were coming every 5 to 7 minutes and lasting at least a minute long. Again my parents were in town and again I didn’t want to say anything to anyone until I knew if this was for real. Finally, when we got home an hour later, the contractions had maintained their rhythm, so I told my family & husband.

By the time we got to the hospital Christmas Eve it was around 9 pm and the contractions were starting to die down and become less frequent. Totally surprising me! I thought for sure it was go time. After monitoring us for awhile, the hospital released us to grab what sleep we could before celebrating Christmas Day with our 3-year-old daughter. Christmas Day was mostly uneventful, really infrequent contractions.

The day after Christmas was where all the action was at! It was a total roller coaster ride.

“It’s time!!”

“No. No, it’s not.”

Walk. Walk. Walk around the hospital hallways.

“You’re not in active labor.”

“Maybe you should think about inducing?”

“Nah, I’ll wait.”

“What? No, way!”

“Woah! Glad I got my hands there!”

“Here’s your baby.”
